Protest staged in Kabul against lawmaker guards

Mar 07, 2018 - 21:40

KABUL (Pajhwok): Dozens of people staged a protest demonstration in capital Kabul on Wednesday, accused a lawmaker’s bodyguards of harassing people.

The protest was held on the 1st road of Kat-i-Char area where the demonstrators chanted slogans against Parliament member Shaista Baza Nasiri.

“We don’t want a bullying neighbor lawmaker; our area is not a military base and we urge the government to solve their problem,” they chanted.

Mohammad Abbas, 15, who was allegedly beaten by Nasari’s bodyguards: “Over the past one year since the MP has come to reside in our street both sides of the street are closed against area people”.

Two-days back Abbas said he was crossing the street when the MP guards stopped him and insulted and beat him and asked him not to come anymore via this way.

He further added area people were unhappy from the MP bodyguards and the situation was no more acceptable to them.

Roman, another protester, said: “So far three police personnel and seven other individuals have been beaten by the lawmaker’s gunmen and they once held captive a man captive for several hours in a container and later released him with mediation of local elders”.

He said local residents had many time complained about the problem to the Ministry of interior affairs (MoI) and other security organizations but so far unfortunately no one paid attention.

On the other hand, Ajmal Hotak, a resident of the area and a senior advisor to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on social affairs, also confirmed the protesters’ allegations against the parliament member.

He said: “I would inform the president about all problems and tensions of the protestors”.

A Pajhwok reporter and a photographer tried to take pictures of the area closed by the MP guards but Nasari’s guards did not allow them to take pictures in the area.

Meanwhile, Shaista Bas Nasari told Pajhwok over the telephone that the issue might be between his children and area children and termed it a trivial matter.
