‘Maqur police chief behind mysterious murders, drugs’

‘Maqur police chief behind mysterious murders, drugs’

Dec 06, 2017 - 18:12

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of Maqur district of southern Ghazni province on Wednesday protested against the district police chief, accusing him of his involvement in drug smuggling and mysterious murder cases.

Around 200 residents protesting against Maj. Haji Mohammad blocked the Kabul-Kandahar highway against traffic for three hours.

Khan Mohammad, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News that mysterious killings had recently increased in the district and the police chief had a hand in most of the cases.

Holding a paper in his hand, Mohammad said: “This is the list of 23 people of the district who were killed during the period of this police chief. He is involved in most of the murder cases.”

He said he had also met with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah and other senior government leaders about the issue.

Naimullah, another protestor, said besides murder cases, the district police chief was also involved in drug smuggling.

“This commander is a robber and a gangster, he takes money from people by force, he is also involved in gamble,” he said.

The protestors asked the government to remove the police chief and replace him with an honest officer.

They warned of blocking the Kabul-Kandahar highway again if their demand was not responded.

Pajhwok tried to contact Maqor police chief for his comment about protestors’ allegations, but failed.

However, Ghazni provincial police chief said he would investigate protestors’ claims and then decide about the district police official.
