1.5b afs projects underway in Laghman: Naeemi

Dec 06, 2017 - 15:19

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Dozens of reconstruction projects have been underway in eastern Laghman province and their execution will benefit more than half of the province’s population, the governor said on Wednesday.

Abdul Jabbar Naeemi, who inaugurated reconstruction work on a 630-meter long road, told reporters here the road in Sultan Ghazni Baba Township would cost 12 million afghanis.

He said construction work on 78 different schemes had been in progress and the projects would cost 1.5 billion afghanis.

These projects included asphalting of roads connecting districts with the provincial capital, Mehtarlam, the provincial ring road, subways, construction of state-buildings, parks and other areas, said Naeemi.

According to the governor, thousands of people would be employed on the project, which would help improve security.

Naeemi said half of Laghman’s people would be directly or indirectly benefitted by completion of these projects.

“We invited tribal leaders and civil society activists from Laghman and Nanagarhar to this ceremony to spread a positive view of Laghman.” He called media participation in this regard as significant.

The governor emphasized on protection of the projects and urged communities to take care of the schemes.

Gul Ahmad, a resident of Mehtharlam, said construction and reconstruction affairs had recently improved in Laghman.

Imranullah Khanjar, a civil society activist, expressed happiness and said the implementation of the projects would not only add beauty to the province, but also create jobs for thousands of youth.

Another civil activist Khan Mohammad Omarzia said development projects had washed out the past insecure image of the province from his mind.
