Kabul mayor, others accused of misusing authority

Kabul mayor, others accused of misusing authority

Mar 18, 2018 - 14:04

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Kabul Mayor Abdullah Habibzai and some other officials have been referred to the Attorney General Office (AGO) for misuse of authority. Habibzai, however, slams the charge a conspiracy against him.

AGO spokesman Jamshed Rassouli confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News cases against Habibzai and some other official of the municipality had been received by the special attorney department at the anti-corruption court.

As and when the investigation conclude, he promised, it would become clear whether or not the allegations were based on facts. Once the probe was conducted, he said, the number of real accused would be ascertained.

For his part, the acting mayor rejected the allegations as a conspiracy hatched by “opportunists”. He said incomplete documents related to the municipality and Kabul University’s Engineering Department had been leaked.

Handed over to media and judiciary, the papers showed the municipal administration had violated rules and regulations, the official claimed.

Sheikh Ahmad, advisor to the municipality, insisted they had never misused their authority. In fact, he claimed, the accusation was a conspiracy against the young team of the municipality.
