HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Security officials in western Herat province on Friday said despite public order police officers were operating directly under the Ministry of Interior (MoI) but the beating case of a journalist by the forces would be seriously followed by the local administration.

Farhad Tawhid, a photographer and presenter of Ariana TV channel was beaten up by public order police forces in the capital of Herat on Thursday.

He came under attack while filming a mistreatment scene of the police forces in Herat city.

“I took out my telephone from my pocket and started filming a scene in which a police vehicle crashed with cyclist and then the officers mistreating the bicycle owner, but when the officers saw me they got angry and attacked me,” he said.

Tawhid said that he was beaten up despite showing his press card to the officers.

“The police officers stopped hitting me and escaped after local people mediated,” he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Ahad Walizada, Herat police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that public order police forces were working under the MoI but they would seriously investigate about the journalist’s beating case.
