TERINKOT (Pajhwok): Local officials on Saturday say the Khas Uruzgan district of central Uruzgan province is besieged by Taliban militants from the past one month and may fall to the rebels if reinforcements not arrived soon.

An official who declined to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants reached close to the district building, the police headquarter and the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s third battalion.

The source said that Khas Uruzgan district would collapse to militants if reinforcements not arrived immediately.

Lack of coordination among a number of security officials and internal problems are the main factors of worsened security situation in the district, he said.

Uruzgan governor’s spokesman, Dost Mohammad Nayab, confirmed bad security situation in the district since a month.

He said that also said that there was no proper coordination among security officials of the district and it was the reason behind all problems there.

Provincial officials held an emergency meeting about the situation in Khas Uruzgan district and reinforcements would be sent to the district soon, he concluded.
