Af-Pak trade route reopens after 4 years of closure

Af-Pak trade route reopens after 4 years of closure

Mar 10, 2018 - 12:21

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Ghulam Khan trade route between Afghanistan and Pakistan, closed during a military offensive in the tribal region of North Waziristan, has been reopened.

The Ghulam Khan crossing had been closed for trade with Afghanistan four years back. The decision to reopen the crossing was taken by a jirga of tribal elders and traders with the political administration a few days back.

A convey of vehicles laden with trade items crossed the Ghulam Khan border -- would remain open for four days for exports and two days a week for imports -- into Afghanistan.

Traders Israr Khan and Muhammad Nasir told reporters the reopening of the border would not only revive trade between the neighbours but would also create employment opportunities.

At least eight trucks loaded with miscellaneous items proceeded from Miranshah to Afghanistan via Ghulam Khan. The trial will continue for 15 days, according to Dawn, which said vehicles would also come from Afghanistan.
