SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): As many 70,000 fruit bearing trees were distributed among 560 farmers in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Tuesday.

Agriculture director Dr. Kasneshka Hamidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the fruit seedlings worth four million afghanis would be planted in 400 acres of land in Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital, and some districts.

He said 50 percent price of the plants had been provided by the agriculture department and the remaining half would be paid by farmers.

He further added fruit trees would green the environment and also bore fruits in upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Faiz Mohammad, a resident of Gospandi district and a beneficiary, said giving fruit trees on subsidized price to farmers was a good omen.

Mohammad Rasoul, a resident of the Sayyad district, urged the government to train farmers in cultivation of trees.
