TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The foundation stone of a new building for the university in central Uruzgan province was laid in the Eidgah desert on Monday.

Governor Mohammad Nazir Kharoti told Pajhwok Afghan News the university building was being constructed on 250 acres of land.

The building first phase would cost 33 million afghanis and would take one year to complete with funds from the Higher Education Ministry, the governor added.

The first phase would contain some class rooms and administrative rooms and the remaining facilities would be constructed in future.

According to his information, half a million US dollars were approved for the building two years ago but insecurity delayed its construction. Now $25, 0000  have been allocated for the project”, he concluded.

The University acting chancellor Asadullah Noor said the University had been lacking a building of its own over the past six years and they used a high school building.

He said the problem would be solved with construction of the new building and the number of new students would be also increase.

Noor Mohammad, a student of agriculture faculty, said most of their problems would be resolved with the new building. He added right now they lacked hostel.

The Uruzgan higher education institute is part of the Kandahar University and currently imparts education to 881 students in agriculture and education faculties.
