KABUL (Pajhwok): Save the Children has suspended its operations in Afghanistan in the wake of Wednesday’s attack on its offices in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.

At least five people including three staffers of the UK-based charity were killed and 25 others wounded in the suicide attack claimed by the Islamic State.

It had temporarily suspended operations across the country but remained fully committed to helping the most deprived children of Afghanistan, the charity said.

In a statement, Save the Children said it was shocked and appalled at the violence carried out against dedicated humanitarians.

It was with profound sadness that it confirmed the loss of three members of its staff, Save the Children said. Four employees of the NGO were wounded.

Save the Children claims providing "life-saving health, education, nutrition and child protection programmes that have helped millions of children."
