Sincere global cooperation needed to eradicate terrorism: Liu Jinsong

KABUL (Pajhwok): The new Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Liu Jinsong has highlighted poverty, terrorism and backwardness common challenges to China and Afghanistan and stressed over sincere international cooperation for its eradication, a statement from the Chinese embassy said on Sunday. 

The envoy said that both China and Afghanistan opposed terrorism in all its forms and advocated the eradication of the root causes of terrorism, taking comprehensive policies to tackle both the symptoms and root causes.

Hailing Afghanistan sacrifices against terrorism the envoy said the Kabul and Beijing had been the victim of terrorism and he personally felt the pain of terrorism having grown up in Xinjiang province, the statement said.

Liu  said that China and Afghanistan remained friendly countries. The two countries always supported each other.

“China is a large country; however, it has never bullied Afghanistan, never intervened Afghan internal affairs, never sought geopolitical interests or agents in Afghanistan. Instead, it upholds the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness, treat Afghanistan equally and help the Afghan people to achieve peace and reconstruction whole-heatedly,” the envoy said.

Before assuming office, the Chinese envoy was told him that the Afghan people trusted China so much that one can say "China's friends are friends of Afghanistan. China's enemies are enemies of Afghanistan."

Recalling the historic Silk Road the Chinese envoy said China and Afghanistan jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, which would revive the Silk Road, make it more beautiful, and contribute a shared future of the two counties.

The geographical and resource advantages of Afghanistan would be fully fulfilled. Afghanistan would be one of the connectivity hubs for the region and Afghan people would also enjoy more benefits, he assured.

The Ambassador said, many Afghan friends wanted to export more products to China, such as carpets, marbles, pomegranates, saffron and pine nuts and assured his full support in improving trade and business ties.

The new Chinese ambassador arrived in Kabul on 3rd January and presented his credence to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in less than one week after his arrival, which made his credence the first one accepted by Ghani in 2018.

The president said with delight that this should be a sign for good fortune. This special arrangement reflects the depth of the China-Afghanistan relations, showed the great importance attached by Afghanistan to China and their passion to Afghan-China cooperation.
