JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Twenty Taliban rebels, including a commander, have been killed during an operation by in Afghan Special Forces (ASF) in eastern Nangarhar province, an official claimed on Thursday.

Shams-ul-Haq, the administrative chief for Khogyani district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Special Forces conducted the raid in Sordag area of the district late on Wednesday night.

He said at least 20 insurgents, including notorious commander Mudassir Khan, were killed and 11 Kalashnikovs, bullets, two vehicles and several motorbikes seized from the militants.

A resident of the area, speaking on the condition of anonymity, claimed 16 militants hailing from Khogyani district were killed.

On the other hand, Taliban’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed 13 security personnel were killed by the fighters. He also confirmed 12 rebels suffered casualties.

Without giving specific figures, Mujahid alleged civilians had also sustained causalities. But district chief spurned the claim as groundless.
