30 Taliban killed, 33 injured in Ghazni operations

Jan 07, 2018 - 22:23

GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Thirty Taliban insurgents have been killed and another 33 wounded during security forces’ operations in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Sunday.

Maj. Gen. Shaor Gul, 203th Thunder military corps commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the operations had been ongoing over the past one week in Andar and Deh Yak districts.

He claimed 30 Taliban insurgents were killed and another 33 injured in the operations that also resulted in confiscation of 12 motorcycles and weapons. He further said they would extend the ongoing operations to areas under Taliban control.

Governor Abdul Karim Mateen, who attended the press conference, said cooperation of local residents with security forces had a great importance.

“The same people who give food and places for sleeping to Taliban rebels accuse the government of failing to bring peace to the area”.

The governor said the Taliban tried hard to take control of general highways to boost their illegal income but security forces frustrated their designs.

On the other hand, Mohammad Ibrahim, a social activist, said, government authorities should build security posts after operations.

“Operations will not have positive impact if the security forces do not stay in the localities for a long time”, he said.

The Taliban also confirmed the operations. Their spokesman; Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters killed 19 security men and wounded another 24. He said only seven fighters suffered wounds in the operations.

According to government officials, the ongoing solar year saw so far 18 majors military operations taking place in Ghazni.
