Imam Sahib residents seek assistance to rebuild homes

Jan 04, 2018 - 19:57

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 500 homes have been destroyed due to the recent conflict in the Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz province and the residents of demolished homes have been facing multiple problems.

They said after three years they were able to return to their localities but found their homes demolished on return.

Mohammad Hashim, 60, the resident of Qerghiz locality, said they Taliban controlled their village for three years and no one was allowed to enter there.

Hashim who was busy in the rehabilitation work at his damaged house along with his grandson, said: “The government should help us because everything we possessed had destroyed.”

Asadullah, another resident of locality, said his own and his brother’s house had been destroyed due to airstrikes.

“Our house was used as trench, the fighter jets came and struck our house, nothing is left here,” he said.

Mahbobullah Saeed, the town’s administrative chief, said around 100 homes had been destroyed due to recent clashes in the district.

“We want the disaster management authority to come here and provide assistance to the victims,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that 20-day back security forces launched operations in the Imam Sahib district and cleared some villages from the Taliban.
