Women among 11 held on drug smuggling charges

KABUL (Pajhwok): Counternarcotics police have detained nearly a dozen smugglers, including two women, and referred their cases to courts, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) said on Wednesday.

CJTF said in a statement 11 suspected drug smugglers had been detained in different parts of the country. The detainees include a man and two women arrested at the Hamid Karzai International Airport while smuggling drugs to India.

More than 139 kilograms of heroin, 483 kilograms of opium, 177 kilograms of hashish, 6 kilograms of chemicals, more than 29,000 afghanis, 2, 45000 Pakistani rupees, 4000 Indian rupees, 13 mobile phone sets and three vehicles were seized.

The individuals were detained in Kabul, Nimroz, Logar, Balkh and Paktika provinces, the CJTF statement said, adding that the detainees were currently under investigation.
