KABUL (Pajhwok): Tens of Afghan students have been protesting in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province, over the past three days, demanding recognition of their academic degrees by local authorities.

The Afghan Students Union (ASU) in Lahore in a statement said their education career was at risk due to non-serious attitude of the Pakistani authorities.

The students have been protesting day and night in front of the Lahore Press Club, seeking their certificates.

The ASU statement said the Afghan students had been introduced to different universities in Punjab on scholarship in 2012 and 2013 and now they had their bachelor’s degrees, but yet to receive their degrees after months of their final exams.

Some students completed their courses at the Imperial University six months back but their future remains unknown.

The ASU said the issue had been discussed with the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad, who promised complete support.

Top Afghan Embassy ifficial Zardasht Shams confirmed they were aware of the issue and termed it a serious matter.

He said it was an old issue and stemmed from irresponsible behavior of the Afghanistan Higher Education Ministry.
