Taliban’s chief for Greshk district killed in airstrike

Dec 05, 2017 - 19:45

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Local security officials on Tuesday claimed Taliban’s chief for Greshk district of southern Helmand province has been killed along with five accomplices, but the rebels denied.

Maj. Abdul Qadir Bahadurzai, spokesman for the Afghan National Army’s 215th Maiwand Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News Mullah Mohammad Daud, Taliban’s shadow district chief for Greshk, and five others were killed late on Monday in US airstrikes.

He said the US forces targeted the militants in an area between Greshk and Musa Qala districts.

Cap. Mohammad Ismail Khpalwak, police chief for Greshk district, also said Mullah Daud had been killed.

“Mullah Mohammad Daud was returning from funeral ceremony of Mullah Nasar, Taliban’s shadow deputy governor for Helmand, when came under airstrike,” he said.

Mohammad Yaqob, a resident of Musa Qala district, said Mohammad Daud was resident of Musa Qala district and was killed on Monday.

However, Taliban denied the claim. The group’s spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the man killed was an ordinary insurgent.

On the other hand, Ahmadi tweeted that many Afghan forces suffered casualties in Greshk and Sangin districts of Helmand.
