New war tactics helped defeat Taliban: Ahmadzai

New war tactics helped defeat Taliban: Ahmadzai

Dec 04, 2017 - 18:54

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Afghan National Army’s 215 Maiwand Corps commander on Monday said Taliban were defeated in southern Helmand province as a result of new war techniques.

Talking to reporters in Lashkargah, Helmand’s capital, Maj. Gen. Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai said the corps had established bases in areas captured from Taliban insurgents in recent operations.

He said security posts established in the past had not been effective. Ahmadzai said the Taliban suffered heavily in recent operations “Maiwand-7 and Maiwand-8”.

Deputy Governor Sardar Mohammad Hamdard said security forces had full support of common people in recent operations which helped expand government’s control on the territory.

Ahead of the press conference, 500 new forces completed their two months training at the Maiwand Military Corps Training Centre.

The Taliban have been in control of Baghran, Dishu, Musa Qala, Nawazan, Khanshin and Sangin districts of Helmand.
