Hekmatyar off to Turkey but HIA in denial

Hekmatyar off to Turkey but HIA in denial

Nov 28, 2017 - 13:43

KABUL (Pajhwok): Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar on Tuesday left for Turkey on his first foreign trip since signing of the peace agreement with the government.

The peace deal between Hekmatyar and the national unity government was signed on September 23 last year. Some months after the agreement, he appeared in eastern Laghman province.

About two months back, Hekmatyar visited Herat province but the Saudi visit represents his first foreign trip after the pact.

A source close to HIA told media outlets on Tuesday Hekmatyar left Kabul for Turkey. However, the source did not provide more details about the HIA leader’s trip.

Nader Afghan, a spokesman for HIA, denied Hekmatyar’s foreign trip and told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was in Afghanistan.
