LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): One border policeman was killed and eight others wounded in a car bomb attack in the capital of southern Helmand province on Friday, an official said.

The early morning attack targeted personnel of the second border police battalion in Bolan area of Lashkargah at about 8am, the governor’s spokesman said.

Sarhadi Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News one border police was killed and eight others were wounded in the attack.

Border police fourth battalion commander in Helmand, Col. Zahir Gul Maqbool, said a mazda vehicle was used in the attack.

He said there had been prior information about a  car bomb attack, but the vehicle had crossed through civilian homes reaching the second battalion base.

The Taliban have claimed credit for the attack, with the group’s spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, saying dozens of police were killed and wounded.
