Kapisa: Fire at Afghan forces center doused

Kapisa: Fire at Afghan forces center doused

Nov 06, 2017 - 14:05

MAHMOD RAQI (Pajhwok): A major fire that engulfed the Afghan forces’ coordination center in the capital of central Kapisa province was put out after three hours of hectic efforts, an official said.

Qais Qaderi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the fire erupted due to a short circuit in the dining hall of the center at around 11am.

He said firefighters from Parwan province were also requested to help extinguish the fire. Firefighters from Kapisa alone could not deal with the blaze.

If the fire had not been controlled in time, it would have spread to the weapons depot. That would have led to a disaster, he added.

However, provincial police spokesman, Mohammad Ayub Yousufzai told Pajhwok that the fire was extinguished after hectic efforts of three hours.

No one was hurt in the blaze that caused financial losses, he said. “Only two rooms are destroyed, Parwan police also helped us in extinguishing the blaze,” he said.

Ajmal, a resident of Sayyad area, said, “The fire was extinguished an hour after three firefighter vehicles reached the area.”

It was for the first time that such an important place in Kapisa caught fire.
