Above 18,000 acres of land saved from grabbing: MoJ

KABUL (Pajhwok): Government land measuring at least 18,000 acres across the country has been prevented from being usurped during the past three years, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) said on Saturday.

Justice Minister Abdul Basir Anwar, addressing a conference ‘Ministry of Justice Performance in Unity Government’s 3-year Term,’ said his ministry was committed to seriously combating corruption and land usurpation.

He said the MoJ would continue its efforts until all government land was reclaimed from illegal encroachers.

During the past three years of the unity government, about 675 shops, 30 residences’ doorways, 5,000 litres of diesel, 2,500 literes of petrol, and 28,000 kgs of wheat were recovered, the minister said.

Basir said about $69 million, above two billion and 400 million afghanis and 13,000 Euros had also been delivered to the government’s treasury in revenues.

He also informed about deciding and discussing legal, civil, household cases during the three years. More than 100,000 legal applications and above 86,900 legal cases had been investigated and addressed during the period.

Also about 23 million and 119, 313 afghanis funds acquired by the departments of the MoJ were delivered to the government’s exchequer.

About registration of political parties, he said, 65 political parties and 3,000 civil society groups were also registered during the period by his ministry.

Revenues collected from issuing permits to political movements, groups, property dealers and petitioners reached up to 41 million and 212,000 afs.

Anwar said education, training, vocational, religious, legal, health and culture services were also provided to 790 children residing in Children’s Correction and Training centres in capital Kabul since unity government’s coming into power.
