Trust deficit hurting Afghan transit trade: PAJCCI chief

Trust deficit hurting Afghan transit trade: PAJCCI chief

Nov 01, 2017 - 10:23

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Reservations of businessmen about the new Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA) need to be addressed on priority, says the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) chief.

The lack of interest on the part of governments and some political disputes had been harming Afghan transit trade and bilateral business for the last six months, PAJCCI Director Ziaul Haq Sarhadi said.

Addressing a meeting of PAJCCI in Peshawar on Tuesday, he urged the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan to overcome their bilateral trust deficit to boost the regional economy.

Pak-Afghan Liaison Committee, Transit Trade Directorate, PAJCCI and Afghan consulate will send recommendations for the removal of the reservations of businessmen to their respective governments.

Sarhadi called for convening a meeting to review the transit trade agreement. He said stakeholders from both countries be invited to explore ways of resolving the problems.

Representatives of Frontier Corps, (FC), political administration, police and other authorities concerned will be taken on board. Meetings will be held on a quarterly basis to improve the body’s performance.
