LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A visiting Senate delegation on Wednesday said it would share the demands of the protesting people in the capital of southern Helmand province with the president.

Senator Hashim Alokozai, who heads the delegation, told reporters in Lashkargah that they listened to leaders of the protestors who had erected tents outside the governor’s house.

The delegation also held talks with the deputy governor and the attorney and promised to convey their demands and concerns with the president.

Alokozai said the protestors supported the construction of the cricket ground, but they wanted to avenge insulting of elders by the two officials.

He said if the elders had really been insulted, the protestors would be supported in demanding their right.

The lawmaker said elders from every tribe were present at the protest tents and their genuine demands would be shared with the authorities concerned.

He also urged the protestors to call off their protest keeping in view the prevailing sensitive situation.

Qodus Khan, a tribal elder, said they supported the government and but they would continue their protest until the deputy governor for finance and administration Sardar Mohammad Hamdard and appellate attorney Mohammad Sadiq Farahi were removed from their positions.
