KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan were decisively thrashed by hosts Iran in their match of the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship qualification tournament, an Iranian TV channel reported on Monday.

The Iranians scored an emphatic 8-2 triumph over the Afghans in the Group B fixture of the South & Central Zone in Shahid Poursharifi Arena of Tabriz city, said the Press TV, monitored here.

For the hosts, Mahdi Javid opened the account in the second minute. Three minutes later, Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh Navlighi doubled Iran’s lead. He netted another goal in the 7th minute.

Afghanistan’s Akbar Kazemi scored the first goal for the Lions of Khorasan in the eighth minute. But Shahab Talebi netted Iran’s fourth goal before Javid helped his side rise to 5-1 lead.

Saeed Ahmadabbasi found the back of the net in the 19th minute to further consolidate Iran’s position. In the 28th minute of the game, Hussain Khadmi scored a second goal for Afghanistan.

Seconds later, Javid completed a hat trick in the 28th minute and Hassanzadeh netted his third goal a minute later, according to Press YV.

Iran, the Asian futsal powerhouse, holds a record of 11 championship titles. In the 2017 Asian Indoor Games, the Afghans had they defeated Uzbekistan 4-2 to claim the top spot in their group and progress to the quarter-finals. But they lost to Iran in the semis and Japan in the third place play-off.
