SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Six Taliban and five Daesh rebels have been killed and 15 others wounded during a series of clashes between the rival groups in northern Jawzjan province, local officials said on Monday.

Governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Reza Ghafori, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two groups clashed in Chaharsai and Khataisai areas of Qush Tepa district on Sunday night.

The two sides creased fire in the morning but they were preparing for another battle, he said.

He said six Taliban and five Daesh fighters had been killed and seven Taliban and eight Daesh rebels wounded during the clashes.

When asked why the Afghan forces are not using the opportunity to launch an operation against the two groups, he said, “Security personnel in Qush Tepa cannot protect the district center and launch an operation at the same time, they are only in defensive position.”

Residents of Chaharsai village said Daesh gunmen asked local people to leave the area before they enter clashes with the Taliban.

A resident of the area, who wished to go unnamed, said that people started leaving homes when clashes erupted between the two sides and Daesh rebels torched tents of local people during the battle.

He said the Taliban who had been forced into retreat from Qosh Tepa district resumed fighting at 10am today and the battle was still ongoing. “There are no houses in Chaharsai and Khataisai areas and people there live in tents”, he added.

Some people were said to be stuck in the conflict.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident. The two groups engaged in a clash 10 days ago in Sherbik and Gardan villages, in which 31 people were killed and wounded.
