Oct 16, 2017 - 20:57

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A 10-member Daesh group and their commander have joined the peace process in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.

The reconciled militants also turned in 10 weapons thanks to efforts by the spy-network, said the Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani.

He told media outlets the reconciled Daesh affiliates had been engaged in anti-government activities in Achin and Nazyan districts.

They shunned violence and the join the peace process due to efforts by the National Directorate of Security (NDS)’s Nangarhar chapter

The reconciled group commander, Niyaz Gul, said he was intelligence member of Daesh in Achin’s Pikhi Khwar and Bagh Dara areas and he had participated in many anti-government activities.

“We did different kinds of destructive activities ranging from attacking police posts, destroying culverts to detaining people in compliance with our leaders’ orders. The Afghan government and people were introduced to us as apostates; but now we have realized the truth.”
