60 inmates released from Nangarhar jail

Oct 15, 2017 - 19:08

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Sixteen prisoners, including a woman, have been released from the central jail in eastern Nangarhar province in compliance with a presidential pardon decree, an official said on Sunday.

Nangarhar appellate attorney Khalid Orya, speaking at a ceremony in honor of the released inmates, said the prisoners were released based on presidential decree No. 110 that was issued on the country’s 98th Independence Day.

To a question, Orya rejected rumors that prisoners’ cases were postponed and not dealt with timely at the Nangarhar appellate attorney’s office.

Nangarhar prison warden, Abdul Wali Hisarak, said prisoners were provided all facilities they needed at the jail. He said besides vocational training, facilities in other spheres needed such as sports had been provided to prisoners.

With happiness seen on their faces, the released inmates said they would not indulge in any criminal act in future in order they didn’t enter jail again.

Currently, about 1,718 prisoners, 42 of them women, who have been convicted of various crimes, are held at the main jail in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
