24 Taliban, Daesh rebels killed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Twenty-four Taliban and Daesh militants have been killed during clashes with security forces and airstrikes in  Haska Mena and Ghanikhel districts of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Friday.

The joint Afghan and NATO forces conducted air and ground raids in Paeen area of Haska Mena district last night, killing 15 Daesh militants and wounding five others, the governor’s spokesman said.

Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News that an elderly woman was also killed after being trapped in the clash site.

A resident, Naqib Shinwari, said the slain woman’s body had been evacuated to the civil hospital in Haska Mena district.

Separately, nine Taliban militants were killed during a clash with security forces in Golahi’s Dwagai area in Ghanikhel district last night, the district chief said.

Abdul Wahab told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead Taliban included a commander Amir Shah.

Abdullah, a local resident, said two houses were also destroyed during the firefight which he said continued until late into night.

The two rival militant groups have so far said nothing about the two incidents.
