Past 6 months: Above 550 crime suspects detained in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul police have arrested more than 550 crime suspects and confiscated thousands of liters of alcoholic drinks and a large amount of drugs during the past six months, an official said yesterday.

Kabul Asmai Zone police commander Mohammad Salam Ihsas addressed a press conference on Monday here about the police performance during the first six months of the Afghan year, which started on March 22.

The period saw police arresting 508 people in connection with 415 crimes besides capturing thousands of litres of alcoholic drinks and 256 kilograms of various types of drugs.

Ihsas said police also recovered 25 vehicles, 15 arms, 378 mobile phones and 1900 packets of intoxicating tablets.

Police confiscated 111580 afghanis and 70350 American dollars from detained drug smugglers and collected 535 drug addicts and shifted to rehabilitation centres,

Another 17 individuals were detained for possessing 350 heavy weapons bullets, 50 hang grenades, 70kg of explosives and 19 landmines of different types.

Ihsas said police rescued an 11-year-old boy from his kidnappers in Sarobi district and arrested three suspects in connection with the case. The boy was reunited with his family.

He said three suspects in the murder case of Abdul Qadir had been arrested in Kabul and a three-member robbery gang and a five-member group of highway robbers had been busted in Paghman district.

During this month, Ihsas said, 17 people were caught red-handed playing gambling in Kabul and 286500 afghanis and 14900 dollars and one pistol were recovered from the detainees.
