KABUL (Pajhwok): The 810th birth anniversary of Hazrat Mualana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi has been celebrated at the Afghanistan’s Embassy in Washington.

Afghan Ambassador to the US, Hamdullah Mohib, former US ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq Zalmai Khalilzad, India’s envoy to Washington Arun Signh and a large number poetry and art lovers attended the gathering.

In his opening remakrs, Mohib said Balkhi spread the message of peace and love and his guidance was felt necessary in the current time than ever before.

He said some Afghans despite being unable to read and write held greater attachment to the poetry and writings of Balkhi.

Khalilzad said most people in the world associated Afghanistan with the war and conflict but there was another Afghanistan with a rich history and civilization and Jalaluddin Balkhi was part of that Afghanistan.

He said efforts at having a moderate and prosperous Afghanistan should continue by all Afghans.

Balkhi was a renowned poet of the 12th century. He was born in Balkh province. His father Bahauddin was famous religious scholar and sufi.
