KABUL (Pajhwok): Australian businessmen have shown their interest to invest in Afghanistan’s untapped natural resources, a statement from the Presidential Palace said on Thursday.

The Australian businessmen met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in New York in the presence of Atlantic Council members and directors of private sector companies. The US foreign secretary, OPEC representative, Afghan traders and investors were also in attendance.

The Afghan president briefed the participants about current business and investment opportunities in his country’s energy, construction, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, agriculture and other sectors.

At the meeting, the Australian businessmen expressed their interest to invest in the mining sector of Afghanistan.

The OPEC representative said Afghanistan was on their priority list and they would share their plans regarding investment in Afghanistan in near future.

President Ghani thanked the global business community and organizations and assured them of the Afghan government’s all efforts for security and protection of their investment.
