KABUL (Pajhwok): The newly-appointed European Union (EU) Ambassador to Afghanistan, Pierre Mayaudon, on Tuesday said the union was ready to Afghanistan in various spheres.

President Ashraf Ghani accepted the credentials of the new EU delegation head to Afghanistan during a reception ceremony at the Presidential Palace, a statement from the Presidential office said.

The statement quoted the president as congratulating Mayaudon on his new job and expressed gratitude to the EU for its support to Afghanistan in various fields and during the Warsaw and Brussels conferences. President Ghani wished Mayaudon success in his new mission.

Both the sides discussed various topics, including strengthening of economic and trade ties between Afghanistan and EU countries and the Afghan government-initiated peace process.

They also talked about providing export and import opportunities to EU member countries, economic development, EU’s investment and cooperation in textile development sphere, technical support from EU in developing Afghanistan’s mines and mineral deposits.

Mayaudon, expressing happiness over his new duty, reaffirmed EU’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its partnership with Afghanistan.

The EU’s ultimate goal, the new Ambassador asserted, was to contribute to building peace and stability for the wellbeing of the Afghan society.
