Elite Force attack: One architect killed in Logar

Elite Force attack: One architect killed in Logar

Sep 11, 2017 - 18:40

KABUL (Pajhwok): One of the suspected architects of a deadly attack on the elite forces in Kabul has been killed during an operation by police Special Forces in central Logar province, the Ministry of Interior said on Monday.

The suspect, identified as Darya Khan aka Khalid, was killed in Enam village near the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam, last night, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The attack that killed 64 people and injured 347 others, mostly civilians, last year was blamed on the Haqqani network.

Darya Khan Khalid was one of the alleged architects of the attack on the Elite Forces in Kabul, the Ministry of Interior statement said.

Khaid was killed along with three other key figures of the Haqqani Network --- Abdul Rahman aka Omari, Qari Irshad and Mullah Haibatullah, the statement claimed. Abdul Rahman allegedly provided explosives to the network, the statement said.

The Interior Ministry said the eliminated group was linked to the Haqqani Network and had important roles in planning and organizing several terrorist attacks in Logar and other neighboring provinces.

Two 82mm and 75mm cannons, a rocket launcher, two AK-47s and several other light and heavy weapons were discovered during the operation that also resulted in injuries to a member of police forces.

The MoI said the deaths dealt ‘a heavy’ blow to the Haqqani network.
