Helmand University sans building after 9 years of foundation

Sep 09, 2017 - 14:09

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The state-run University of southern Helmand province has been without building after nine-year of its foundation, but officials says efforts are one to construct proper building and infrastructure for the university.

The matter was raised in a gathering marking the graduation of 315 male and 25 female students from different disciplines of the university.

University Chancellor Sour Gul Abdul Rahman said the Helmand University witnessed remarkable development as far as the quality of education is concerned. Qualified and quality teachers had been appointed to the university, he added.

He said the University had no building since its foundation and continued functioning in the buildings teacher training centres and education department facilities.

Tribal elder Matiullah Matai said two separate places in different areas of Helmand had been allocated to the university, but no work had been launched for the construction of buildings.

He said there was need for collective efforts by different stake holders to construct the land.

Governor Hayatullah Hayat said he would strive to resolve the dispute over the land allocated for the university.  He promised the provincial government would soon re-allocate the land to the university and Helmand University would be made a slandered higher education facility.
