13 killed, 19 injured in Helmand car bomb attack

Aug 27, 2017 - 20:49

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 13 were killed and 19 others, mostly civilians, were wounded on Sunday when a suicide car bomber struck an Afghan army convoy in southern Helmand province.

The attack took place in Dwa Pula area of Nawa district soon after 7am, killing 13 civilians and wounding 19 civilians and eight security personnel, said Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman.

A doctor at the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, confirmed receiving 13 dead bodies and 30 injured people from the scene.

Nawa district chief Agha Mohammad confirmed the attack and said there was no security post in the area and the attacker apparently targeted security forces on a patrol.

Taliban took responsibility for the suicide car bombing.
