2 civilian injured as Pakistan shells Momand Dara

Aug 17, 2017 - 15:41

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Rocket attacks from the Pakistani side of the Durand Line have injured two civilians in the Momand Dara district of eastern Nangarhar province, a reliable source on Thursday.

Pakistani forces have fired 36 rockets into the district since Wednesday. The Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, confirmed the Pakistani forces had yet again started shelling the town.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News about 36 rockets had landed in the Khwarai area of the district. The rocket-shelling neither caused casualties nor financial losses, he explained.

But a Momand Dara-based official, familiar with the incident, confided to this news agency that the Pakistani forces’ shelling left two civilians injured in the area. Many families were forced to flee the area.

Meanwhile, a resident of the area, Haji Ghulam, asked the government to prevent Pakistani aggression through diplomatic channels. He suggested a tit-for-tat response if the diplomatic option failed.

Similar unprovoked shelling into Momand Dara, Lalpura, Goshta and Achin districts of the province has taken place from across the Durand Line in recent years
