Negligence in preventing target killings unacceptable: Muslimyar

Negligence in preventing target killings unacceptable: Muslimyar

Aug 12, 2017 - 22:25

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Meshrano Jirga or upper house chairman on Saturday said detective organs in eastern Nangarhar province had failed in preventing targeted killings, saying their ‘negligence’ was no longer acceptable.

Fazal Hadi Muslimyar also called upon the Afghans to support the incumbent government, terming support to the system the only way to resolve the prevailing issues.

Addressing a gathering marking the International Youth Day here, Muslimyar said targeted killings had recently increased in Nangarhar and intelligence agents had failed to detect and prevent the assassinations. The perpetrators of such murders remained at large, he added.

He warned the provincial administration and security organs that that negligence in preventing the targeted killings would not be tolerated.

He stressed coordination among all detective organs and the National Directorate of Security (NDS), saying an organized plan should be prepared for controlling the target killings. Muslimyar said the only way to find resolution to current issues was supporting the system.

Meanwhile, Nangarhar police chief Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman also spoke on the occasion, admitting security threats. He said besides criticism a plan for resolution to the problem should also be shared with the police. He assured of taking needed steps to resolve current issues in detective organs.
