LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Four Taliban attackers were killed 20 hours after they attacked a money exchange market in Greshk district of southern Helmand province, an official said Saturday.

The coordinated attack began at around 7:00am on Friday morning in the district centre and stretched into 3pm on Saturday, said Omar Zwak, the provincial government spokesman.

He said security forces and civilians suffered no casualties in the attack, but shops and market suffered damages.

“Bodies of militants and their weapons are still in the market, so until the market is cleared, the money changers will be allowed to enter the market,” he added.

Den Mohammad, a shopkeeper, said they were yet to be allowed to enter the market. “The money is safe in the market, but police and army men are not allowing us to enter the market.”

At the same time, other explosions also happened in other areas of the district.

Mohammad Salim Roadi, the Greshk district’s administrative chief, said Taliban insurgents stormed all check-posts in the district. He said three car bombings took place in Greshk district, killing three people and wounding eight others.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the money exchange market, with the group’s spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi saying several security personnel were killed and wounded.
