Jul 28, 2017 - 10:54

KABUL (Pajhwok): Head of the Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) Gulbadin Hekmatyar has stressed social justice for durable peace and stability in the country and said efforts were underway to rehabilitate tribal councils and traditional institutions for country-wide peace and tranquility.

Hekmatyar expressed the views during a meeting with members of Mangal Tribal Council who called on him here at his party headquarters, said a statement from the HIA media wing on Friday.

The HIA head hailed sacrifices of Mangal tribe during Jihad against former Soviet Union and asked them to get together and end conflict in their own localities.

“We want to rebuild tribal councils which will help us in bring peace to the country and end the decades old conflict,” he said.

Hekmatyar said the ongoing war in the country served the interest of foreigners and should come to an end as soon as possible.

He reiterated support for the incumbent government and warned groups that sought the removal of current government.

The Mangal tribal council supported the government-HIA peace accord and admired Hekmatyar’s efforts for peace and stability in the country.

The Mangal tribal council members said the people of Afghanistan were seeking a matured leadership who could steer the country on the path of prosperity and development.

They support the HIA leadership and urged the role of tribes was vital for durable peace and stability in the country.
