KABUL (Pajhwok): Unbeaten Afghanistan on Tuesday qualified for the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup after registering their sixth consecutive triumph in the qualifying round in Singapore.

The qualifying round began last week in Singapore and ended on Tuesday, with Afghanistan emerging the top point getter.

The event featured Afghanistan, Nepal, Malaysia and the hosts Singapore and each side played two matches against the other.

Afghanistan played their last match against Nepal, said Farid Hotak, the Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman.

He said the Afghanistan under-19 cricket team won the toss and decided to bat against Nepal. The Afghans set the Nepalese 196 runs target after losing all wickets in the 46th over.

For Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran shined with the bat and struck 101 runs.

The Nepalese were unable to chase the target and all were sent back to the pavilion after piling up 90 runs on the scorecard.

Yousaf Zazi grabbed four wickets, followed by Mujib Zadran who clinched three scalps while Shams Walikhel, Tariq Stanikzai and Zahir Paktian shared one wicket each.

Ibrahim Zadran was the man of the match. Afghanistan booked a berth in the next year World Cup to be played in New Zealand after defeating their rivals with huge margins.
