Afghanistan romp to 5th win in U-19 qualifying round

KABUL (Pajhwok): Recoding their fifth consecutive win in the ICC Under-19 World Cup qualifying round in Singapore, Afghanistan on Monday secured the chance to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Maintaining their winning spree, the Afghans beat the hosts, Singapore, by a huge margin of 224 runs after being invited to bat.

The Singaporeans won the toss and chose to bowl in the 50-over encounter against Afghanistan in their second match of the tournament.

For Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran scored 73, Darwish Rasouli 71, Tariq Stanikzai 55, Naveed Obaid 29 and Akram Alikhail 27 runs, piling up 305 runs on the scorecard.

In response, the Singaporeans could not stay on the crease due to fierce bowling form the Afghans and were all out for just 81 runs in 18 overs.

Mujib Zadran clinched four wickets, Yousaf Zazai three, Wafadar Momand, Waqarullah Eshaqzai, Shamsullah Walikhil shared one scalp as they won the match with a big margin of 224 runs.

Ibrahim Zadran was declared the man of the match by scoring 73 runs. It was Afghanistan’s fifth consecutive win in the event and secured the chance of qualifying for the World Cup.

 Afghanistan will take on Nepal in their final match on July 25.
