KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday appreciated the Afghan girl robotics team for their achievement in the United States, saying the team showed the Afghan women could shine in every field and bring laurels home.

Talking to a ceremony welcoming the Afghan girl robotics team in his office, Abdullah congratulated the team and said they proved the Afghan women and girls could shine globally.

Talking to the robotics team, Abdullah said their achievement was the result of the team’s tireless efforts and courage.

The six-member Afghan team won a special award at an international robotics competition in Washington.

The girls were taking part in the FIRST Global Challenge competition, which took place across three days and saw 158 nations compete against each other.

They took home a silver medal for courageous achievement, which was awarded to teams "that exhibit a can-do attitude throughout the challenge, even under difficult circumstances, or when things do not go as planned".

The CEO thanked teachers and couches of the team and the United States for giving visas to the team.

Fatima Qaderyan, talking on behalf of the robotics team, said they were ready to take part in future competition.

A number of Cabinet ministers, legislators from western Herat province and women’s rights activists were present at the ceremony.
