Afghanistan cruise to 10-wicket win over Malaysia

Jul 21, 2017 - 16:07

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan cantered to a 10-wicket victory over Malaysia in their ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers match in Singapore, an official said on Friday.

Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News Malaysia won the toss and chose bat in the 50-over game.

But the Malaysians were only able to pile up 58 runs for the loss of all wickets in the 22th over.

For Afghanistan, Mujib Zadran took six wickets, Tariq Stanikzai two and Wafadar Momand and Yousaf Zazi shared one scalp each.

Hotak said the Afghan under-19 crew easily chased the target in 5.4 overs, with openers Darwish Rasooli contributing 37 unbeaten runs and Navid Obaid 22.

Mujib Zadran was declared the man of the match for his six-wicket haul.

It was Afghanistan’s second win against Malaysia in the four-nation competition being played under double round robin format.

Top team in the points table will earn berth in the ICC U-19 World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand next year.

Leading the table on superior net run rate, Afghanistan have so far defeated all the rival teams and have inched closer to taking berth in the World Cup next year.
