Zazai steers Afghanistan to 8-wicket win over Malaysia

Jul 17, 2017 - 12:55

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan defeated Malaysia in their first match in the ICC Asia Under-19 World Cup Qualifier round in Singapore on Monday.

The 50-overs event’s qualifier round between Afghanistan, Malaysia, Nepal and Singapore got under way today.

Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News that national side won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Malaysians could not stay at the crease for long due to fierce bowling from the Afghans and were bundled out for just 53 in 21 overs.

For Afghanistan, Yousaf Zazai clinched four wickets, Mujib three, Zahir Pakteen two and Shams one, Hotak said.

The Afghans chased the target in six overs and won the match by eight wickets, with 266 balls remaining. Darwish Rasouli scored 31 runs and Naveed Obaid hit an unbeaten 18.

Yousaf Zazai was declared the man of the match for taking four wickets. Afghanistan will take on the hosts Singapore in the second match tomorrow.
