Nangarhar: 7 kidnapping suspects sent jail for up to 20 years

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Seven people have been sentenced to jail from 12 to 20 years over kidnapping charges during an open trial in eastern Nangarhar province, a statement said on Wednesday.

The statement from the Nangarhar Appellate Court to Pajhwok Afghan News said the public hearing for the seven kidnappers was presided over Municipal Court Judge Mufti Mohammad Wazir.

Three of the individuals were sentenced to 12 years in jail each and a fourth accused of two kidnapping cases to 20 years in prison under the Afghanistan Penal Code.

The statement further another two men accused of kidnap-rape were sentenced to 15 years each in jail and a sixth person to 12 years over kidnapping.

According to the statement, three other men accused of kidnapping were acquitted for the lack of evidence against them.

The jury of the open trial said the sentences handed down weren’t final and the convicts could challenge them at the appellate court.
