After 2 days of closure, Kunduz-Baghlan highway reopens

Jul 07, 2017 - 12:01

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The busy Kunduz-Baghlan highway has been cleared of insurgents reopened for traffic, officials claimed on Friday.

Brig. Gen. Khalilullah Ziayee, police commander for the northeastern zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News the highway had been closed for two days by militants.

“The armed rebels were hiding in civilian houses, posing a threat to the road and passengers,” he said, adding security forces conducted a huge operation last night.

As a result, he claimed, the road had been cleared. Heavy casualties were inflicted on the guerrillas during the overnight operation, the commander said. He insisted there was no longer any threat to passengers.
