Thousands of Nangarhar poor families receive food aid

Thousands of Nangarhar poor families receive food aid

Jun 08, 2017 - 18:22

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Food items, provided by a Turkish aid giving organization, have been distributed to about 3,000 poor families in Surkhrod district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.

The poor families, working in brick kilns, said their work became further hard in Ramadan and they had to leave the work for the entire holy month.

Abdul Hakim Sherzad, Labor and Social Affairs director, said they made a plan before Ramazan to help poorest families by attracting aid from national traders and aid agencies.

Each family received ghee, beans, sugar, tea and pea. The supplies were made by Hadaf Foundation of Turkey.

Sherzad said charity organisations were expected to provide aid for at least 6,000 more poor families in near future.

Mohammad Alam Yalderm, Hadaf foundation’s official, said aiding poor families in the holy month of Ramazan was proof of Turkey’s friendship with Afghanistan.

He said the foundation had been assisting poor families in different provinces of Afghanistan with food items, education and reconstruction.

The aid recipients expressed happiness and urged the government and national traders to provide them more assistance.

A 30 year-old, Safiullah, who works in a brick kiln, said his stopped working in Ramazan because it’s hard.

His joblessness rendered his family in bad situation. He said the aid was not enough for the entire month and the authorities and national should provide them more assistance.
