Schoolteacher killed, 9 injured by mortar shells

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A schoolteacher was killed and nine others were wounded as a result of mortar shell fired by Taliban in northern Kunduz province on Thursday morning, local officials said.

Janat Gul Naseri, an education department official, said the incident happened in the capital of Kunduz at 9:20am when the mortar shell struck the Sher Khan high school.

He said a schoolteacher was killed and two others were wounded. The school is located near the police headquarters, which was targeted from Bandar-i-Khanabad area.

Police spokesman Inamuddin Rahmani said six mortar shells were fired into Kunduz City by the Taliban, targeting the governor’s house and police headquarters. He said one civilian was killed and four others were wounded.

But Dr. Naeem Mangal, head of the local hospital, said a dead body and nine injured people were brought to the hospital. One of the injured is said to be in critical condition.

No group so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
