Daesh commander joins peace process in Nangarhar

Daesh commander joins peace process in Nangarhar

May 11, 2017 - 15:28

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): An Islamic State commander has joined the peace process in eastern Nangarhar province due to efforts of National Directorate of Security officials.

Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Daesh commander, Wafadar, joined the peace process by turning in a gun, a satellite phone and two grenades.

According Khogyani, Wafadar was an active member of IS in Chaparhar, Kot and Haska Mina districts. He lately realized the ‘truth’ and reconciled with the government with efforts of intelligence operatives.

Wafadar said he had carried out terrorist activities in Taliban ranks before defecting to the IS group. With Daesh, he said, he had to commit even more barbaric activities.

The former Daesh commander, who spearheaded a 15-member ISIS group, said there were foreigners in the group who received orders from their countries.

“ISIS has been forcibly taking harvests and income from people and killing them with no reason. These actions caused me to stop violence and join the peace process”, Wafadar added.
